The article on this is a little troubling in the fact that why was Islip mentioned one of two towns only getting cars? It seems to have left out the fact, one of those vehicles is the Supervisors, a big crown victoria. This vehicle was taken immediately upon title given.                             TOTAL BROOKHAVEN TOWN 472,425- 142 cars take home 368 sq m. Total Babylon Town 211,792 car use report daily     53 square miles TOTAL ISLIP TOWN 322,782           169 cars take home   106sq miles   How is it Islip has less population & miles than Brookhaven but more take home cars and more phones?

 Days after Brookhaven Town Board members unanimously voted to buy themselves brand-new SUVs, several said they want to reconsider the move and revisit the town policy granting them free, taxpayer-funded cars.

The board authorized spending $174,000 on six hybrid Ford Escapes Tuesday as part of $1.3-million bond package to purchase 44 new vehicles for the town. Most of the money - consistent with the town's standard yearly outlay for new vehicles - will replace worn-out work trucks not worth repairing, town officials said.The report found town employees drove more than 500,000 unauthorized miles in town-owned vehicles last year - much of that in 142 take-home cars.
